Unfortunately, although Davies did remain faithful in some ways that Thompson, Lee, et al. When I first heard about the existence of an S&S miniseries from the BBC, written by the much-lauded Andrew Davies, I expected something closer to the 1995 P&P in terms of quality and fidelity (although, to be fair, the 1995 P&P does take quite a few liberties with its source material, and is far from a perfect adaptation) than what was actually produced. So I'd say it's a lot of fun for a fan of the book but I'd never pick it for someone first being introduced to the story. But it seems to have largely missed that the book is supposed to be funny, which is a pretty big failing. It's enjoyable for a fan of the book just for the sake of seeing the things you imagined rendered so perfectly. The settings and other details are gorgeous. Most of the actors look exactly like the characters should (though Edward is too handsome/dashing and Willoughby not enough, IMO). It's like watching the book come to life. The scenes that are agonizingly awkward and hilariously funny all at once are top-notch.ΔΆ008: Visually beautiful. Best of all, it keeps the humor of the book better than almost any other Austen adaptation. The cast are all too old for their characters, but they give such fantastic performances that it doesn't matter.
I love the script, which makes changes to work better for the screen while still capturing the essence of the story and characters.
